An Essential Add-on to Boost Your Kid’s Immune System

Infants get immune cells from the mother through the placenta and breast milk if they are breastfed. Over time as they mature their immune system needs an extra protection to fight with infections.

Keeping them happy and healthy and safe from any illness becomes paramount for parents. Nothing pains us more than seeing our little one fall prey to cough, cold or avoidable infections and diseases. To help your child avoid illness, it’s important to encourage good habits and take steps to boost their immune system from an early age.

Here are some simple ways which help to build immunity in kids.

1- Encourage them for a healthy diet

Healthy diet is very important for your child’s immune system. Encourage your child to eat rainbow foods, serving fruits and vegetables of all colours and seasons. When it comes to fruits and vegetables,a good selection of whole grains should also be a part of their diet as well. Whereas foods with excess sugar and junk food should be at minimum. Proper food choices can help ensure that your child gets enough vitamins.

2 - Boost Sleeping time and make it a priority

To boost immunity kids must get enough uninterrupted sleep. Sleep requirements for each night vary by age:

  • Babies between 0 and 3 months need 14 to 17 hours of sleep.

  • Those between 4 and 12 months need 12 to 16 hours of sleep.

  • Children between the ages of 1 and 2 need between 11 and 14 hours.

  • Kids between the ages of 3 and 5 should get from10 to 13 hours.

  • Children ages 6 to 12 should get between 9 and 12 hours.

  • Teens between the ages of 13 to 18 need 8 to 10 hours.

Not getting proper sleep reduces the body's ability to produce proteins called cytokines that help to fight with infections and reduce inflammation.

3- Maintain Hygiene and Promote Regular hand washing

Maintaining hygiene keeps germs and infections away. Eighty percent of the infection is spread by touch. Teach your little one to wash their hands after sneezing, coughing, going to the bathroom, before and after meals, after playing, and after using the toilet should be a habit. Washing hands for at least 20 seconds can remove bacteria and reduce the chances of infections by up to 45%.

4- Make exercise a routine

Research shows that exercise increases the number of natural killer cells in adults and regular activity can benefit kids in the same way, says Ranjit Chandra, M.D., a pediatric immunologist at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. Whenever it's possible, take your children outdoors for fresh air and vitamin D, required by each cell in the body and to build immunity.

After all of these tips you can’t avoid illness but some kids need extra protection.

“For this extra protection you have to add on the extra essential supplement in your kids routine which makes more chances to save your child with cold and cough etc and helps to make their immune system stronger.”

Vit C:
